journal

A simple journal of my thoughts on photography and the process of making work.

I have decided that I should start profiling the people in my life. Some are clients, some friends, some family. All I find very, very interesting in different ways on different levels. I come up with three questions that I like…or I think the person would like to answer. One of the questions gives them a chance to talk about what they are currently up to. Everyone will be different so the questions will vary. This week I am profiling Vanessa Martinez. She is a client. We shot a full headshot session in Los Angeles at my Dahlia Studio. She is a wonderful person, a crafty actress, and a great cook (I hear).

PROFILE: VANESSA MARTINEZ, Actor (IMDB)

1. How would you best describe your approach to a scene? Do you have a specific technique?

When the writing is good, most of the work is already done for me. I just have to listen and be present. When the writing is challenging, I try to find the heart of the scene and play it as honestly as I can.

2. If you could cook dinner for one actor, who would it be and what would you make?

Gene Wilder. My bison roast over rosemary parmesan polenta. A flourless chocolate cake that would knock his socks off. Two good bottles of wine, and a case of two buck chuck.

3. When/what was your most recent experience on tv/film/stage?

I played a small but lovely role in the film Warrior. It stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton. It’s my first big budget film. The director, Gavin O’Connor was amazing to work with and he made it an unforgettable experience. It opens September 9, 2011.
